Jockey's Ridge is the largest sand dune on the east coast of the US. There are areas there that you can get a perspective as if you are in a desert, yet it is about a half mile from the ocean, if not closer.

Bodie Island Lighthouse

Outer Banks, NC. Bodie (pronounced 'body') Island is no longer an island due to shifting sands over time, but still a beautiful area.

Equipment at the Ready

Melbourne Cricket Grounds

This place is enormous. I've been to some of the larger college football stadiums in the US, and this place is much larger. The field is significantly larger than US Football, plus the stadium holds over 100,000 spectators.
